The Pink Palace~Jane Mansfield Mansion

The story goes that in 1957 Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay purchased their beloved Pink Palace mansion in Beverly Hills from Rudy Vallee for a sum of $76,000. One of the pre-conditions of marriage was that Jayne would have the heart shaped swimming pool of her dreams. And so it went...

“The Pink Palace.” Mansfield purchased the 40-room Mediterranean-style mansion in 1957 and immediately began renovating. She didn’t stop at painting the exterior pink—think of an entire bathroom furnished in pink shag carpet, walls and all. As clever as she was lovely, she wrote to furniture and building suppliers requesting samples for her new home; those “samples” totaled over $150,000 ($1,246,742 in 2014 dollars). The house itself cost only $76,000 ($631,682 in 2014 dollars).
Oh, she knew how to catch the eye! I've always liked her for her dedication to her children, she seemed like a wonderful woman. Her and Elvis must have tossed around ideas over lunch..

In 2002, the pink palace was demolished.I was there in 2009 and all I could see was the old white gate abandoned in the bush…such a shame :(

I am sooo incredibly sad such a historic piece of old Hollywood had to be demolished...too bad I don't have millions to save all historic structures and homeless animals....because I would.
